AmCham Malta Executive Board pays courtesy visit on US Ambassador
The newly elected members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Malta paid a courtesy visit on the United States Ambassador to Malta, Mrs Molly Bordonaro at her private residence in Attard.
Dr. Anton Tabone was recently re-elected President of AmCham Malta. Mr James Satariano, Vice-President, Mr. Simon Grima, Honorary Secretary, Mr. Pierre Attard, Honorary Treasurer, Mr. Chris Paris, Mr. Alfred Cuschieri and Mr Denis Gatt, members. Mr. Simon Barberi is the Executive Secretary.
Both parties spoke about developments taking place between the Government of the US and the Government of Malta, most notably the initialing of the Double Taxation (Avoidance) Treaty and the US Visa Waiver Program. Ambassador Bordonaro reaffirmed that the final signing of the Treaty would be taking place shortly. This occurrence would significantly encourage more US firms to invest in Malta especially as Malta continues to grow internationally as a business destination of excellence in the Mediterranean.
As for the US Visa Waiver Program, now that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between both Governments in this regard, the Chamber augurs that the process towards the introduction of biometric passports in Malta would take place without unwarranted delays as the visa waiver is a measure deemed beneficial to Maltese citizens interested in doing commerce in the US as well as for those citizens travelling to the US for leisure purposes. AmCham Malta supports the stand taken by the US Government to fast-track Malta’s visa waiver program together with that of seven other new EU members.
Dr. Tabone outlined the Chambers plans for the coming year that would include the co-hosting of a major seminar in Malta and assisting government entities in the organisation of possible trade missions/seminars in the United States.
